Glenn Beck Calls For Impeachment Of Obama — AND Top GOP Brass

The Glenn Beck brand of crazy is nothing new. Progressives have become largely indifferent to his insanity and barely notice any new antics. However, this time, he’s gotten our attention once again because he’s not just targeting President Obama and other Democratic politicians but also the top GOP congressional leaders. He is calling for the impeachment of all of them because he says they are “arming known terrorists.”

On Monday, the White House announced that the government is waiving part of the Arms Export Control Act so that they can send “non-lethal assistance” to Syrian rebels. In a broadcast this week, Beck said, according to the fabulous World Net Daily:

“I called today for the very first time in my career … I personally am calling to impeach the president of the United States. This is impeachable. He is arming known terrorists, and people like John McCain should be impeached as well.”

So who is Glenn Beck wanting to impeach, besides President Obama? Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and John McCain, and Speaker of the House John Boehner.

“We know some of the arms are going to fall into the hands of al-Qaida. And how do we know that? Because the president just had to waive the law saying that we are going to arm known terrorists,” Beck said. “If that’s not an impeachable offense, for Lindsey Graham, for John McCain, for John Boehner, for the president of the United States, I don’t know what an impeachable offense is.”

Predictably, all of those are GOP congressmen who have resisted the Tea Party insanity that’s dominating the GOP as we head into fiscal talks.

Beck compared the White House’s move to getting “into bed with Hitler to defeat Japan” and he called it treason.

The fact is that Beck, as usual, has not done his homework. National Security Council spokesman Caitlin Hayden issued this statement:

“This action will allow the U.S. Government to provide or license, where appropriate, certain non-lethal assistance inside or related to Syria. This includes: 1) chemical weapons-related personal protective equipment to international organizations, including the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, for the conduct of their operations; 2) chemical weapons-related life-saving assistance for organizations implementing Department of State or U.S. Agency for International Development programs to strengthen local Syrian health care providers’ ability to prepare for and respond to any use of chemical weapons; and 3) defensive chemical weapons-related training and personal protective equipment to select vetted members of the Syrian opposition, including the Supreme Military Council, to protect against the use of chemical weapons. This action is part of longstanding and ongoing efforts to provide life-saving chemical weapons-related assistance to people in need in Syria.” (Washington Examiner)

So providing protective equipment, life-saving assistance to organizations and health care providers, and training amounts to treason? Glenn Beck needs to break out a dictionary.

While he’s at it, Glenn Beck needs to pull out a second grade U.S. social studies book (or click this link) and take a gander at the Constitution of the United States. Members of Congress can’t be impeached and while they can be expelled from their seat, it has to be carried out by their own chamber. Fat chance of that happening.
