Bob Beckel is a registered Democrat, has been employed as a party strategist, supports Barack Obama, and seems to consider himself a centrist. As a member of “The Five” on Fox, he is supposed to serve as the only counterweight to the right wing conspiracy theorists whom he shares space with. Unfortunately, when it comes to the issue of religious freedom as it relates to Muslims, Beckel speaks in ways that might even offend the casual Fox viewer, if not the rabid ones.
Tuesday on “The Five” Beckel said this,
“If it were up to me, I would not have another mosque built in this country until we got it worked out who was not a terrorist.”
This is not the first time that Beckel has gone down this road. Shortly after the Boston bombings, Beckel made this comment,
“I think we really have to consider…that we’re going to have to cut off Muslim students from coming to this country for some period of time so that we can at least absorb what we’ve got, look at what we’ve got and decide whether some of the people here should be sent back home or sent to prison.”
So now, Fox employs Lou Dobbs and his race baiting against Mexicans and Beckel as it relates to Muslims. I bet both of these guys probably think they are in the mainstream of political thought in this country. It would appear to me that they have simply adapted to their surroundings.
