A Florida woman identifying herself only as “Rose” says that she was nearly run off the road in a 20- mile chase with her kids in the car. The reason? Her Islamic faith. 26-year-old Rose says to WKMG-TV of the man who terrorized her:
He grabs a red flannel shirt from his passenger seat and he takes it. He wraps it around his head, holds it under his chin and starts wiggling his head like this, obviously to imitate my head scarf.
Rose says that the incident occurred on October 25th of this year, when the man tried to pass her on double yellow lines in his Ford pick up. After making eye contact with her and performing clearly Islamophobic gestures, and then briefly running her off the road, he pursued her for another 20 miles as she attempted to reach police for assistance before giving up his chase. She further told WKMG:
I have my 4-year-old screaming in the car, my 1-year-old screaming in the car. I’m actually screaming at this point to the 911 dispatcher, you know, ‘Help me, where’s the police?’
According to The Orlando Sentinel, Osceola County authorities have identified a suspect and are treating this road rage incident as an aggravated assault. However, Rose says she saw the police drive by the truck of the man responsible for this without taking him into custody.
Islamophobia is getting worse and worse in this nation. It must be stopped, and the way to stop it is to treat incidents like this one as the hate crimes that they are. Aggravated assault indeed. Arrest this clown and lock him up, where he belongs.
