The Spanish Flu and Covid-19

1918, 2.0

You won’t want to, but should read this.Be warned in advance that it is not good to read. In fact it’s downright eerie. What it comes down to is this: We, literally, “Ain’t seen nothing yet, people.”

And it should ring true because the parallels are already clear. We’re reopening the country too soon. The infection and death rates are not going down. We’re averaging close to 3,000 a day. Shortly, they will spike right back up, too.

So here’s a thought: Quit arguing with people who refuse to mask or
do social distancing, unless they’re in your face, that is. In my case they get summarily backed off.

The thing is this: history says about all we can do is duck and outlive the bastards. We won’t change their minds because just like 1918 they’re too sure they are right, too tired of following inconvenient rules of survival, too convinced that we’re all brainwashed sheeple.

They don’t care, because they have already convinced themselves. Trust me, I will get guff along exactly those lines.

So, as I heard from more experienced people in the Marines: “Damn it Slim, just duck and outlive the suckers! It’s all we can do right now.”

Well, I did and we can. Because a lot of people are going to pay dearly for the prideful rejection of reality. So you? Keep up with wearing a mask, keep social distancing. In short, keep living.

I’m sorry for the ones we’re going to lose, but it’s their choice; it’s not your fault or mine, guys. We’ve been talking science that is clearly accurate about reality. They’ve “rejected that reality and substituted their own.

There’s an old saying that there is in fact only one truly “mortal” sin: stupidity. And its price in inexorable.

But you and I are not required to pay it.
