After three decades of nuclear standoffs with the west, Iran has joined with the Obama administration in an effort to distract from the Affordable Care Webpage glitches. At least that’s what you might be thinking if you read tweets from Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas. Cornyn tweeted:
Amazing what WH will do to distract attention from O-care.
And he’s not alone as, former presidential candidate, Herman Cain claimed:
He [Obama] is desperately trying to change the subject from ObamaCare to just about anything else.
Of course Fox News’ Fox and Friends co-host Steve Doocy wouldn’t be out done by GOP leaders.
“Don’t you think it’s a little curious?” Doocy asked Baier. “Some of my friends were talking over the weekend, isn’t that curious timing? Out of nowhere, you know, in the midst of ObamaCare not unrolling correctly, the president’s poll numbers never been lower then, look, [Secretary of State] John Kerry pulls a rabbit out of his hat and changes the subject.”
“I mean, you’re right,” conceded Baier. “It is questionable timing as far as, you know, how much this is sucking up the oxygen in the room and ObamaCare was taking a lot of front-page space. However, they had been working on the deal for a while and it did come together at this time. I mean, they unrolled it at this point.”
Both agreed that it’s awfully handy timing. If these all sounds familiar remember that Super Storm Sandy swooped in to save Obama as well.
What seems to be lost on Republican Party leaders and Fox News, is the actual timeline of the Iranian negotiations—this alongside the fact that the President has been interested in addressing the Iranian nuclear program since the 2012 campaign.
What’s worse is the implication of this theory, which seems to be lost on those like Doocy—Iranian officials and the p5+1 countries—the United States, Britain, China, Russia, France and Germany—have all conspired against the Republican efforts to draw attention to the ACA website issues.
It seems that many Congressional Republicans are incensed that the President is unwilling to close the door on diplomacy.
Lindsey Graham has called for a new round of sanctions saying:
We’re dealing with people who are not only untrustworthy, this is a murderous regime that murders their own people, creates chaos and mayhem throughout the whole world, the largest sponsor of terrorism. And we’re treating them out of sync with who they are. That’s what bothers me so much. This deal doesn’t represent the fact we’re dealing with the most thuggish people in the whole world.
What seems to be lost on every Republican pushing this bizarre agenda is that how hypocritical all this seems to be.
When a President, who’s a democrat, works to create pathways of international stability in the most unstable region on the planet, than he is supporting terrorists in order to distract from his low poll numbers; when a Republican president secretly sells weapons to the most, “untrustworthy… murderous regime…[that] creates chaos and mayhem throughout the whole world, [and is] the largest sponsor of terrorism…” in order to pay Nicaraguan guerrillas to slaughter Latinos, he’s a model Republican they should emulate.
