A fiery John Lewis returned to the National Mall 50 years after first delivering a stirring invocation ahead of Martin Luther King Jr.’s extraordinary “Dream” speech.
Lewis is perhaps the greatest living Civil Rights activist remaining from that time. He was jailed, beaten, and vilified in the fight for equality. He fought on anyway. He may be an old lion, but this lion still has teeth.
Even though he walked up to that podium knowing he is still fighting many of the same scurrilous policies from half a century ago, John Lewis is not tired, he is not weary, and most important – he is not going anywhere.
Let us match his energy and optimism.
