Friday night on Real Time, host Bill Maher closed the show by discussing how the state of California has made an extraordinary comeback behind Governor Jerry Brown. From social issues (legalization and gay marriage), to the environment and the economy, California has turned from a state that politicians would finger point as an example of how not to do things, to the very opposite. Using a mixture of cost cutting and tax increases along with a forward thinking agenda, the world’s 8th largest economy is not only setting the standard, but quite possibly pulling the rest of the country with them
However, the key point Maher had to make about the Golden State’s recovery was the absence of a functioning Tea Party. It’s amazing what you can get done when you remove the stupid.
