Bill Maher Compares Ted Cruz's Faux-buster To Miley Cyrus Twerking With Robin Thicke (VIDEO)

On Friday night’s episode of HBO’s “Real Time,” the funny and often combative Bill Maher had a mouthful to say about Ted Cruz’s stunt on the Senate Floor. Maher, in his trademark style of shocking his audience and panelists, compared Cruz’s filibuster that wasn’t a filibuster to Miley Cyrus’s controversial twerking on stage with “Blurred Lines” singer Robin Thicke. Maher said of Cruz:

He is not afraid to incur the wrath of even some his fans for the greater good of drawing attention to himself. I really think that a filibuster is the political version of twerking.

Maher went on to say that Cruz is going to be just like Cyrus with her twerking, who scored a Rolling Stone cover after that performance rather than losing steam popularity-wise. He said that Cruz “is gonna be the winner, too.”

Reason Magazine Editor-in-Chief Matt Welch disagreed, comparing Cruz’s fake filibuster to “a hit off a crack pipe.” Welch said:

He’s gonna be popular for a couple of days here, but it’s not really a long-term performance enhancing plan here.

No matter which side of the argument wins, it makes for hilarious commentary.
